About
Our school was named after Dr. Roy Wilson, a passionate educator, lifelong learner and dedicated school board trustee. As a school, we focus our efforts on creating optimal learning environments for our students, building long-standing positive relationships with families and establishing a culture of wellness for all. Our school is a space where students, families and staff feel included, seen, heard and supported. We offer sound academic experiences, varied options and academy programming as well as numerous athletic teams. Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre creates authentic connections and provides meaningful learning for all. The dedicated staff at Wilson Learning Centre are excited to embark on a journey of discovery with our students. Our goal is to support students to gain the skills and attitudes to reach their academic potential and to embrace every opportunity to be kind and compassionate individuals. Our core values are a foundation to this work and help to build a sense of community, student responsibility, engagement and respect that is evident throughout our building.
Education in Medicine Hat
Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre is proud to be a part of the Medicine Hat Public School Division. Our learning community serves students mostly in the Southridge area but we do accept students from other areas as space allows. Following the K-9 experience at our school, students typically continue on to Medicine Hat High School.
Community Building and Choice
We strongly believe in the power of community engagement and effective communication. Throughout the school year there are numerous opportunities for families to attend events and become involved in your child’s learning experience. Our admin and homeroom teachers communicate weekly to ensure that families are up to date with all that our school has to offer.
We also have an active School Council / Friends of Wilson group that meets monthly to discuss topics that are of interest to the school community. This group also plans activities throughout the year such as fine arts performances, school dances and fun days to support community connection.
