Mr. Henderson

I'm Mr. Henderson and have been teaching at Roy Wilson since it opened back in 2014.  I am excited to be entering my 5th year as a grade four teacher and am looking forward to a fun, adventure filled year!

I was born and raised in Medicine Hat but finished my education in Edmonton, at the University of Alberta, where I received a Bachelors of Education in 2014.  I moved back to Medicine Hat, got married, landed my dream job at Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre, and started a family.  I have two children:  Wesley (2) and Rhett (newborn).

Sports and athletics is a passion of mine and I love to coach a number of different sports such as Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, and Track & Field.  I have coached basketball for that past 10 years, ranging in age and experience levels from youth basketball to collegiate level at NAIT and MHC where I served as an Assistant Coach.  I am currently coaching the "A" Girls Basketball team as WLC where I am looking forward to a year full of growth and surpassing expectations.

I am an avid board gamer and will be starting up an after-school Board Game Club at WLC to share my love of modern games!  I own over 100+ games and some of my favourites are Five Tribes, Terraforming Mars, Champions of Midgard, and Dinosaur Island.  I love how board games can bring people together in a face-to-face interaction where they can develop relationships, higher level thinking, problem solving skills, planning with the end in mind, and cooperation or friendly competition.

Here is a quick overview of our grade four year plan:

September: We explore super heroes, Lego, Pokemon, and Star Wars as a way to create community, to establish classroom routines, and to explore much of the health curriculum in an engaging and fun manner.

Theme One: Alberta before European contact (including plants, addition, subtraction)

Theme Two: Alberta during the fur trade (including light and shadows, multiplication, division)

Theme Three: Alberta during early settlement (including simple machines, fractions, decimals, area, perimeter)

Theme Four: Alberta now and in the future (including waste and recycling, natural resources, parks and protected areas, math review).

If you ever need to contact me, please feel free to pop by the classroom for a quick visit before or after school or send me an email at

Looking forward to another great year!
