Glenda Groom

Welcome! I hope you've had a happy restful summer! My summer was spectacular as I was able to check off a bucket list item. We travelled to Nova Scotia, P.E.I. and some of New Brunswick. It was two weeks of seeing the beautiful landscape, touring the historic sites and eating lobster! I was able to visit the site of a book we teach in grade two about the deportation of the Acadians in Grand Pre as well as visit the road side giant lobster in Shediac, N.B. I feel so fortunate that we were finally able to make this trip, our Canada is beautiful!

As we head into our fourth year at Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre I reflect on how quickly the time has passed. It seems like just yesterday we were asking our Gr. 7 students to prepare to be tour guides and show case our newly opening school. As of last year we completed our growth spurt by adding grade nine, so this is our first year we’re not recreating who we are as a community. How exciting!

Teaching is a passion for me. 2017-2018 will begin my eighth year of teaching, seven of which have been in grade 2. As I regret to say goodbye to some of my grade level teaching partners, so too am I thrilled to collaborate with two new grade two educators. We have already started to plan another exciting learning adventure for our upcoming grade two students, which I’m also very excited about.

When I’m not at WLC, I spend much of my time with my two little grand daughters and a grand dog. Becoming a grandparent has enriched my growth and understanding of children in a whole new special way. It has given me, yet another understanding, of how the unconditional love of children just keeps growing exponentially.

Welcome back. I can’t wait to meet you!
