Nicole Meech

Hello, welcome to my teacher page. My name’s Nicole Meech and I am excited to be starting my first year at Roy Wilson! I’m currently in my fourth year of teaching; I grew up in Ontario then moved west to attend the University of Lethbridge, where I specialized in Physical Education and Language Arts Education.

This year I will be working in the Humanities and P.E. department.

Grade 9 Humanities: Mrs. Vercillo and I will be working closely to design learning experiences that will engage our students to question their individual and collective identity, how our government and economy work, and how Canada’s political and legislative processes affect governance, rights, citizenship and identity. A special focus will be on building reading, writing, and communication skills that will help students form opinions and compare how others may get different meanings from the same material. We maintain a high standard for teaching and learning that will give your child the tools they need to be successful. Building these skills should extend beyond the classroom, so I also encourage your child to read at home every day.

K-9 P.E.: Mr. Hay and I will be working closely to design a meaningful Physical Education program based around the principle ‘be active for life’ and physical literacy. Physical literacy is when children are taught fundamental movement skills to help them enjoy a variety of activities and sports. Studies have shown that developing physical literacy in a fun way will help children build confidence and be more likely to stay active for life. Since we only have a limited time with your children, building these skills is also essential at home. Please check out this parent resource for fun ways you can learn about movement at home:

I look forward to a fun year ahead with your children. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me any time.
